Lemon Tea and Christina..

When the sun is shining and everything is a hazy yellow; the lure of lemon tea calls...That cleansing fragrance and tingly 'wake up call' in a cup!(perfect)And to go with the tea;lemon drizzle cake of course.I am by no means a great cook.I'm a bit of a hurricane in the kitchen actually but my offerings always taste nice in the end even though their appearance shows signs of storm damage.

A lemon tea afternoon would not be complete without some literary company and I felt poetry calling me.I have three favourite poets; Christina Rossetti,John Donne and Carol Ann Duffy. All amazingly talented and very different on so many levels.BUT Christina Rossetti's 'Goblin Market' was my preferred juicy indulgence today.

If you haven't read 'Goblin Market' or any of Christina Rossetti's work; you are really missing a treat. Her poems often seem melancholic however hope is often lurking between the words and her longer works like the 'Goblin Market' are so visually evocative and entrancing.

Anyway, what would be more appropriate to read on my homage to fruit afternoon but a poem about a girl regretfully succumbing to the lure of the fruit sold by the goblins. The poem weaves a luscious tale of two sisters who hear the calls of the goblin men selling their mouthwatering fairy fruit and how the two girl's lives take a dark course after one of them tastes of the fruit. The poem has been interpreted in endless ways such as having feminist themes, references to capitalism and erotic references however to me it really is just a brilliant fairy tale read that I can get lost in.

Christina's brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti(well known Pre-Raphaelite artist)also illustrated one version and I love to pore over these beautiful images looking at the tiny delicate details.I have a real love of the book illustrations of the Victorian period..I won't bore you with that now.

Well all in all I had a lovely restful and indulgent afternoon..then it was back to making!

Embracing bright colours..a little scary!

Hello there, hope you are keeping well and happy. This is a very quick post about the new items that have landed in my Folksy garden.A couple of weeks ago I mentioned my excitement as the maidens of the nearby village have started to come out in their droves wearing they're best ready for the summer party season.
It is impossible not to be inspired by the luscious bright colours they wear and they often come to me looking for that perfect one of a kind accessory to finish off the look.

BUT although I love bright colours; I'm a little scared of them.Silly,I know but using pastels comes more naturally to me.Are you like that? always drawn to certain shades? You wouldn't think I was scared of colour if you saw the contents of my wardrobe..I wear every colour imaginable but it's somehow different when I'm making.I have loads 'making quirks' that I'm trying to tackle..that's another story altogether.

Well I hope you like my new 'Butterfly and Blooms' sewn necklaces. They're made from leather, felt, fabric, lace, ribbon and beads.I've also popped a couple of sunny yellow embroidered hair bows into my Folksy shop.
I'm also looking forward to hearing your colour preferences or your 'making quirks'...please tell me you have some..surely you must?
lots of love

And the giveaway winner is ...

It was such a delightfully sunny day today that I decided to spend the day in the garden. Inbetween reading, sewing and pruning; I got to the task of organizing my giveaway draw. I enlisted the help of a very special little angel called Jacob and we scribbled all the lovely entrants names on our butterflies. We carefully folded their wings and filled my sewing box...oh they fluttered excitedly.

Little Jacob excitedly reached in and captured the most excited butterfly of all! It was difficult to get the butterfly to sit still so we could see the name..but finally we saw it...

The lovely winner is Natalie of NOfkantsCurios.I've messaged Natalie so she can choose her brooch or print.Thank you to everyone that entered and for taking the time to leave your generous and interesting comments.Jacob and myself have really enjoyed this giveaway lark so will have to do another soon.
Hope you are all well and take care,

Coming over all Maytime!and a giveaway reminder!

I hold up my paint stained hands; I've been a naughty blogger lately!I cannot seem to pop in for a chat more than once every seven nights.I don't know where the time goes...probably the same place my patience goes to when trying to rethread a needle for the twentieth time.

I love this time of the year as the summer creeps closer and closer. We are teased with days of sunny warmth in between the familiar refreshing rain filled days.

Come rain or shine..this time of year always marks a change in my work. I don't know if it's the excitement of the Silver April Showers Parade or the lead up to the Golden May Ball. The maidens of the nearest village make great efforts to out do each other in any way possible.
Glorious colours and fabrics appear everywhere!the hairstyles, the bonnets, the shoes! is a pure visual feast and so I've been busy making necklaces, brooches, hair bows..so much inspiration.
(whispers)My favourite sewing publication will be revealing the secrets of how I make the above necklaces in the coming months..I'll let you know more when it's out!

Well, all this makes me PRETTY HAPPY(sorry-I couldn't resist!)
Before I go, just a quick reminder about my GIVEAWAY
You can win a brooch or a print by becoming a follower and leaving a comment.(Just click on the word giveaway to go to post)
